Box Office Battle: ‘Kung Fu Panda 4” wins weekend with $58.3M debut

“Box Office Battle” is The Fly’s weekly roundup of what movies topped the weekend’s box office.

Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal’s “Kung Fu Panda 4” won this weekend at the North American box office with a $58.3M debut, exceeding expectations in a near-series best. The movie directed by Mike Mitchell, who also commanded “Trolls” and “Shrek Forever After,” received an A- CinemaScore from audiences.

BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: Warner Bros. (WBD) and Legendary’s “Dune: Part Two” placed number two with another $46M in its second outing. Behind it was Lionsgate’s (LGF.B) “Imaginary,” which opened to $10M. Another debut placed number four. Angel Studios’ “Cabrini” earned an estimated $7.6M. Rounding out the top five, Paramount’s (PARA) “Bob Marley: One Love” grossed about $4.1M.
